Alan Howard

Alan Mackenzie Howard CBE (* August 5, 1937 in London ) is a British theater and film actor.

Biography

Alan Howard comes from a famous family of actors. His mother Jean Compton Mackenzie family had produced several generations of actors since the early 19th century. His father Arthur John Howard was the younger brother of British film star Leslie Howard, who played, among other things, the role of Ashley Wilkes in the film Gone with the Wind.

Howard, who had never attended drama school, his career began in 1958 at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. From 1967 to 1982 he was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and played in numerous plays a starring role. In addition to his work in the theater Alan Howard was involved in many feature films and television productions since 1961. In Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Lord of the Rings, it gives the Dark Lord Sauron his voice.

For his theater work, he received numerous awards. 1998 Queen Elizabeth II appointed him Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

In 2004, he married his long -time partner, the journalist and author Sally Beauman, with whom he has a son.
