Alan J. Dixon

Alan John Dixon (* July 7, 1927 in Belleville, Illinois ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and former Senator for the State of Illinois.

Life

Dixon went to school in Illinois and studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana -Champaign later. He completed his studies with a Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis. Subsequently, he served in World War II in the United States Navy.

Policy

In 1951 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Illinois and 1963 in the state Senate, where he remained until 1971. Thereafter he served until 1977 as Minister of Finance of Illinois before he there exercised the office of the Secretary of State in connection. In 1981, he became a U.S. Senator for Illinois. He represented the state in Congress until 1993.

Last years

After his tenure as Senator Dixon worked for the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP. He now lives in Fairview Heights.
