Alan King (comedian)

Alan Irwin Kniberg, better known under the stage name Alan King ( born December 25, 1927 in New York; † May 9, 2004 ) was an American comedian and actor.

Life

He was the youngest of several children and spent part of his childhood on the Lower East Side of New York, to Kings family later moved to Brooklyn.

King dropped out of school to train for his comedic talent. At this time he worked mainly in nightclubs. He started his career by performing in shows of Ed Sullivan, Perry Como and Garry Moore. In his performances, he often dealt with the life in the suburbs. The Philanthropist Alan King also wrote several books, produced films and was also often seen as an actor.

King, who smoked cigars all his life, died on 9 May 2004 at the age of 76 years in a Manhattan hospital of complications from lung cancer.
