Alan Lowenthal

Alan S. Lowenthal ( born March 8, 1941 in New York City ) is an American politician. Since 2013 he represents the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alan Lowenthal attended until 1962 the Hobart College in Geneva (New York). This was followed up in 1967 to study at the Ohio State University in Columbus. He studied under philosophy. Since 1969 he has taught the subject at California State University at Long Beach. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. From 1992 to 1998 he was a member of the city council of Long Beach; 1998-2004 he was a deputy in the California State Assembly. Then he sat 2004-2012 in the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 2012, Lowenthal was in the 47th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Loretta Sanchez took on 3 January 2013, joined the 46th district. In the election he won against Republican Gary DeLong by a margin of 29.530 votes. He is the oldest new deputies in the 113th Congress.

Alan Lowenthal is married for the second time and has two grown sons. His first wife, Bonnie Lowenthal was also deputy in the California State Assembly.
