Alan Mansfield

Sir Alan James Mansfield KCMG KCVO ( born September 30, 1902 in Brisbane, † 17 July 1980) was an Australian lawyer and governor.

Life

He was born as the third son of the English Judge Edward Mansfield and his wife Margaret Elizabeth. He attended school in Sydney. His family owned land outside of Brisbane and lived a suburb.

After he became a lawyer, he represented during the Tokyo processes Australia in the Far Eastern Commission.

On May 17, 1940, he was ibid. 1947 Assessor judges of the Supreme Court of Queensland on 20 March. On 8 February 1956, appointed court president and remained so until February 21, 1966.

During his time as president of the court, he was repeatedly appointed acting governor of Queensland. In 1966 he became Chancellor of the University of Queensland. In the same year he was appointed Governor of Queensland and it was until 1972.

Honors

  • In 1958 he was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George ( KCMG ).
  • The suburb of Mansfield in the city of Brisbane is named after him.
