Alan Parker

Sir Alan William Parker ( born February 14, 1944 in London Borough of Islington, London, United Kingdom ) is a British producer, writer and director.

Life

Parker was initially successful commercial filmmaker. In the 1970s, he and Alan Marshall, a production company for commercials. Marshall was involved as a producer even up to and including Angel Heart from the year 1987 to all of his film projects. The editor Gerry Hambling (1926-2013) was responsible for the editing of all film projects. Very often he also cooperated with cinematographer Michael Seresin.

Parker was repeatedly nominated for an Oscar (among others for 12 clock at night - Midnight Express) and won four British Academy Film Awards (including for Bugsy Malone ) and the " Grand Jury Prize " at the film festival of Cannes 1985 ( with Birdy ). In 1981, he has directed Pink Floyd The Wall, the feature film adaptation of the successful rock album The Wall by British rock group Pink Floyd.

A highlight of his career was Angel Heart (1987 ) starring Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro and Lisa Bonet in the lead roles.

An Oscar (Best camera), the film received Mississippi Burning - The root of hatred (1988 ), starring Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe in the lead roles. The dedicated work for civil rights in the United States after the end of segregation based on a true story.

With The Commitments (1991 ), a film about a young soul band of the Irish working class, Parker once again showed his skill.

Other works Parkers: the comedy The Road to Wellville (1994 ) with Sir Anthony Hopkins, the film version of the Lloyd Webber musical Evita with Madonna ( 1996), the drama Angela's Ashes (1999) and the thriller The Life of David Gale ( 2002).

Parker is a founding member of the Director's Guild of Great Britain. 1985 honored the British Academy Parker for his outstanding contributions to British cinema with the Michael Balcon Award. On New Years Day 2002 Parker was beaten by the Queen knighted. 2013 he was in recognition of his life's work of the Honorary Award of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the Academy Fellowship, awarded. Parker is also since 2005 Honorary Doctor of Arts at the University of Sunderland.
