Alan Richardson (composer)

Alan Richardson (* 1904 in Edinburgh, † 1978 in London) was a Scottish pianist and composer.

Richardson worked for some time as a pianist for the BBC in Edinburgh, before studying in 1929-30 at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Harold Craxton. In 1931 he undertook a concert tour of Australia and New Zealand. From 1936 to 1939 he was accompanist of Carl Flesch, after which he worked until his death as professor of piano at the Royal Academy.

Inspired by his marriage with the oboist Janet Craxton, a daughter of his teacher, Harold Craxton, Richardson composed numerous pieces for the oboe, as well as piano works, sonatas for bassoon and viola and a Sonatine for flute.
