Alan Smith (bishop)

Alan Gregory Clayton Smith ( born February 14, 1957) is the tenth bishop of the Anglican diocese founded in 1877 St. Albans in St Albans.

Life

Smith studied at the University of Birmingham and the University of Wales. After ordination in 1981, he worked in various communities. He was appointed Regional Bishop of Shrewsbury within the Diocese of Lichfield in 2001 and received episcopal consecration. In 2002 he received a PhD degree. On September 19, 2009, he was introduced as the Diocesan Bishop of St. Albans.

One focus of his work is life and faith in rural areas.

Smith belongs to the group of ten Anglican bishops who spoke out in the spring of 2011 for the Alternative Vote in the election of members of the House of Commons and thus for the reform of the exclusive electoral system.

On October 3, 2013, Smith was in his capacity as bishop of St. Albans as a clergyman Lord Member of the House of Lords. On November 4, 2013, was officially launched with the support of Jonathan Gledhill, Bishop of Lichfield, and Christopher Hill, Bishop of Guildford, the House of Lords.
