Alan Sorrenti

Alan Sorrenti ( born December 9, 1950 in Naples) is an Italian singer, guitarist and songwriter.

Biography

Sorrentis mother was a Welsh girl and he spent his childhood also spent some time in Wales. However, his music career began in the early 70s in Italy with his debut album Aria (1972 ) and Come un vecchio incensiere all'alba di un villagio deserto (1973). Both were progressive rock albums and the Italians played in an experimental way the instrumentation and wide range of his voice, especially in the to the 20 minute long title pieces. Although his early works are little known today, as they were on an international level, as evidenced by guest musicians like David Jackson of Van der Graaf Generator and Francis Monkman of Curved Air. Drummer on both albums was, who later became known as a soloist Tony Esposito.

In the following years he turned, however, on the Experimental Rock. Maybe voice problems were responsible for the greater success brought him in any case more popular music. His recording of the Neapolitan folk song Dicitincello VUJE on the third album Alan Sorrenti was a moderate success, reaching the charts as a single. He moved then towards Italopop. Figli delle stelle With (1977) and LA & NY (1979 ) then turned in the large commercial success. His biggest hit, for which he is famous even today, was the hit Tu sei l' unica donna per me (translated: You're the only woman for me ), with which he first won in 1979 at the renowned Festivalbar Competition. After the song he wrote himself, not only in Italy but throughout Europe was a summer hit. In Switzerland, the song spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the charts and it was the second most successful song of the year. In Austria he had thus a number 2 hit in Germany, although it reached only number 13, but was full 39 weeks in the charts.

The following year he represented Italy at the then Euro Vision Song Contest, finishing with the equally self-penned title Non so che darei 6th place also with this song, he was an international success.

After the success was but very quickly after he disappeared from the international spotlight. With Angeli di strada 1983 appeared again rockigeres album before he personally turned to Buddhism and converted. His album Bonno Soku Bodai (1987 ) was inspired by his religious development.

In 1988 Alan Sorrenti part with Come by miracolo at the San Remo Festival, but was 26 and thus last. Since the 90's appear at greater distances more of his albums with old and new material. He had his last major appearance in 2006 at the Festival O ' Scià in Lampedusa.
