Alaska Senate

The Senate of Alaska ( Alaska State Senate ) is the upper house of the Alaska Legislature, the legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska.

The chamber of parliament is composed of 20 Senators representing an electoral district in each case. Each of these units includes a fixed average rate of 31 347 inhabitants ( 2000). The senators are elected for four -year terms; limiting the terms of office does not exist. With its 20 senators is Alaska's upper house, the smallest house of Parliament in the United States.

The meeting room of the Senate is located together with the House of Representatives in the Alaska State Capitol in the capital city Juneau.

Tasks of the Senate

Instead, monitors the Lieutenant Governor, the Alaska Division of Elections and met so mainly the role of Secretary of State. Only two other states, Hawaii and Utah have similar constitutional provisions for their lieutenant governor. Current President of the Senate is Republican Gary L. Stevens, District R (Kodiak ).

For Majority Leader ( Majority leader) of the Republicans was Kevin Meyer, District O (Anchorage ), elected; Leader of the opposition (minority leader) is the Republican Charlie Huggins, District H ( Wasilla ).
