Alassa

Alassa is north of places Limassol Kourion and located on the south side of the Troodos Mountains on a high level, a historical town in the southwest of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.

The excavations of Cypriot archaeologists uncovered the early 1980s, the ruins of the Bronze Age city Alassa and two Tranbantenstädte, Poliotaverna and Pano - Madilaris, free. It is controversial whether Alassa has been the capital of the kingdom of Cyprus Alašija. After the archaeologist Claude Schaeffer suspected the capital of the ancient Alašijas at his excavation site in Enkomi, this opinion established for a long time in research and technical literature. More recent excavations confirmed, however, that other historic settlements of the area, including Alassa, similar urban character showed how Enkomi and thus also come into question. There is also a relationship between Alassa name and Alasia ( Alašija ). Material tests on clay tablets, the so-called Amarna letters were discovered among other things in Ugarit and Amarna, show a connection between Alašija and the Southeast of the Troodos Mountains. Besides Alassa this only could Kalavasos (or the excavation area Kalavasos- Ayios Dhimitrios ) as a localization of the kingdom to.

In modern times, Alassa was developed into a park-like tourist center. Through a resort community's dam a larger body of water is formed.
