Alastair Pilkington

Sir Alastair Pilkington (* January 7, 1920; † 5 May 1995) was a British engineer.

After attending Sherborne School and Trinity College, Cambridge, he joined the army. After the end of World War II, he worked for Pilkington in the glass industry. There he worked on the technical implementation of the float glass process. The January 20, 1959, the public for the new production soon replaced the then standard rollers or mechanical drawing. In 1970 he was knighted and appointed to the Central Advisory Council for Science and Technology.
