Alatskivi Parish

Alatskivi ( German: Allatzkiwi or Allatzkiwwi ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Tartu county with an area of ​​128.38 km ². It has 1510 inhabitants ( 1 April 2005).

The manor of Alatskivi was first mentioned in 1601. 1628 gave the Swedish king Gustav II Adolf the estate to his secretary Johan Adler Salvius. Following the example of Balmoral Castle in Scotland was 1880-1885 the castle of Alatskivi in neo-Gothic style. The client was the German - Balt Arved of Nolcken. In the village Rupsi located in historic houses of the 19th century a museum in memory of the writer Jacob and Juhan Liiv.
