Alba Adriatica

Alba Adriatica is a town with 11,680 inhabitants and is located near Tortoreto and Martinsicuro in the Italian province of Teramo. In the years 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, Alba Adriatica received the Blue Flag because of the good water quality and the very clean beach.

Alba Adriatica is considered one of the most famous seaside resorts on the Adriatic coast with a large sandy beach ( about 3 km ).

Geography

The municipality extends over about 9.6 km ². Among the districts ( fractions) are Basciani, Santa Casa and Villa Fiore. The neighboring municipalities are Colonella, Corropoli, Martinsicuro and Tortoreto. The municipality is situated approximately 40 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo away.

History

At the beginning of the 20th century included the present-day municipality of Alba Adriatica Tortoreto. In 1956, broke the town Tortoreto and changed its name to Alba Adriatica. The community has grown considerably in recent years. The municipality had 5112 inhabitants in 1961, yet there were in 1991 already 9365 inhabitants. By 2009, the population rose to over 12,000 residents.

Attractions

The Torre della Vibrata in the community is an old coastal tower of the Kingdom of Naples. The tower was built in the 16th century. More recently, the tower was restored and used as a restaurant.

Sports

On January 2, 1962, the 1989 at the Hockenheimring fatal accident Venezuelan motorcycle racer Iván Palazzese was born. Today a monument in the town remembers him.

In 1973 led the 9th stage of the Giro d' Italia by Alba Adriatica. The Belgian Patrick Sercu won the stage.

Economy

The community lives mainly in the summer very heavily on tourism, the main source of income for the local economy. Other important factors are the construction sector, the craft - in the sectors of textiles and clothing - and the trade and coastal fishing.
