Albena Denkova

Denkowa Albena ( Bulgarian Албена Денкова; born December 3, 1974 in Sofia) is a former Bulgarian figure skater, which was launched in ice dancing.

Figure skating career

Denkowa was first gymnast and moved at the age of 8 years to figure skating. Your first Eistanzpartner was Hristo Nikolov. From 1996 she ran together with Maxim Stawiski, who accepted the Bulgarian citizenship.

1997 debuted Denkowa and Stawiski already at World and European Championships. From 2000, they divided their time between training Sofia and Odintsovo. In Odintsovo they worked together with Alexander Gorshkov and choreographer Sergei Petukhov. A pneumonia in Stawiski prevented to participate in the European Championship 2000. During the World Cup a little later Denkowa the leg was ripped open by Peter Tschernyschews ice and severed two tendons as well as a muscle. After Denkowa had to ask if Tschernyschews insurance could pay for the damage, they were unloaded from the Grand Prix Skate America competition. 2001 both had to fight before the European Championship with a flu, also swelled Denkowas leg due to the injury suffered in the previous year again. Your first medals they won in 2003, when they were in Malmo Vice - European Champion and World bronze medalist in Washington. They were the first medals for Bulgaria at World and European Championships in figure skating. 2004 won Stawiski and Denkowa at the European Championships in Budapest again the silver medal and were in Dortmund Vice World Champion. Previously, she had already won with victories at Skate Canada, NHK Trophy and the Trophée Lalique all of their Grand Prix competitions and became the Grand Prix Final Second.

After the fifth place at the World Championship in 2005 and Stawiski Denkowa ended the cooperation with Gorshkov and went to Delaware to train with Natalia and Gennadi Linitschuk Karponossow. In 2006 she won the World Cup in Calgary. In 2007, she won the bronze medal at the European Championship and defended their championship title in Tokyo. Denkowa and Stawiski are engaged since 2007. 2011 was their son into the world.

Denkowa studied economics at the University of Sofia. Her younger sister Ina Demirewa, who is married to the Russian figure skater Andrei Lutai, also tried in ice dancing.
