Alberich Zwyssig

Alberich (also: Alberik; Given Name: Johann Josef Maria) Zwyssighaus ( born November 17 1808 in Building UR, † November 18, 1854 in Mehrerau ) was a Cistercian monk and composed in 1841 the Swiss Psalm, the present Swiss national anthem.

From 1821 to 1841 he was first convent school and a choirboy and then Father in Wettingen monastery. He worked there as a priest, teacher and secretary of the abbot and conductor.

After the dissolution of the monastery by the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau on 13 January 1841 monks wandered about for several years. After Sonderbundskrieg was Zwyssighaus over six years in Wurmsbach Monastery (Jonah Lake Zurich ) as a guest. He was head of the newly founded Institute daughters music lessons and created numerous spiritual and secular compositions. 1854 came the wandering monks of Vorarlberg finally into: On June 8, 1854 by the Bavarian government in 1806 secularized Benedictine monastery Mehrerau in Bregenz by Abbot Leopold Hoechle from Wettingen was revived with seven priests and three brothers as a Cistercian convent. This abbey is called since Territorial Abbey Wettingen - Mehrerau.

Zwyssighaus participated in the re-establishment as a cantor, but died after a few months.
