Alberschwende

Alberschwende is a municipality with 3143 inhabitants ( 31 December 2013 ) in the district of Bregenz in the Austrian federal state of Vorarlberg.

Geography

Alberschwende is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Bregenz south of Lake Constance, in the Bregenz Forest, north-east and south of the above Dornbirn Bregenzerach.

37.8 percent of the area is forested.

The highest point in the municipality is with 1182 meters above sea level. A. the Brüggelekopf, the mountain of the community, the counterpart to the lowest point in the municipality is found at 440 m above sea level. A. in the river bed of the Bregenzerach.

Neighboring communities

The community Alberschwende borders with their municipality to nine other municipalities in Vorarlberg. Eight of them are as Alberschwende in the political district of Bregenz, namely Bildstein, Book, Langen, near Bregenz, Doren, Langenegg, Lingenau, Egg and Black Mountain. Only the town south west of Alberschwende Dornbirn is located in a different political district, the same district Dornbirn. To the church Langen bei Bregenz Alberschwende limited to a distance of only about 450 meters in the river bed of the Bregenzerach in the extreme north of the municipal territory.

Community structure

There is only one village and cadastral Alberschwende. The four parts of municipalities are Müselbach, Fischbach, Dreßlen and yard. Capital is the village Alberschwende.

History

The place name derives from a slash ( Schwende ) by Alberich or Albrich that in so far in clearing name was mentioned as the first settler. Alberschwende is as Albrichsswendi in a protective certificate of Pope Gregory IX. first mentioned in documents from December 1227.

The Counts of Bregenz managed in the period 1000-1100, the area around Bregenz and built in Alberschwende a church. The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau).

From about 1600 Alberschwende was own court. From 1805 to 1814 belonged to Bavaria and Vorarlberg with the downfall of Napoleon then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Alberschwende heard since the founding of the Vorarlberg Landtag 1861.

The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

Mayor 's Angelika Black man of the People's Party, who was elected unanimously at the Municipal Council meeting on 15 March 2013. Its predecessor was Reinhard droughts.

Coat of arms

Coat Description:

The coat of arms was awarded to the municipality on 22 December 1970. It was created in 1969 after a design by the artist and Schrunser heraldist Konrad Honold.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there were in 2003 56 companies in the industrial sector with 327 employees and 52 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 1,220. Agriculture plays an important role. The proportion of agricultural land in the total area is 54.1 percent.

Education

In Alberschwende there is a kindergarten, four primary schools and a secondary school with a total of 407 students (as of January 2003).

Culture and sights

Buildings and natural objects

  • Parish Church of St Martin: The church was built in 1854-1856. The wooden altar with neo-Romanesque structure and the tabernacle were reconstructed in the period from 1999 to 2003, using old pictures. The altarpiece from 1861 is from the Swiss artist Melchior Paul von Deschwanden, who also created the paintings on the side altars. 1980 created by the artist Engelbert Gitterle the bronze relief " Purgatory " at the church door.
  • Merbodkapelle: The Wendelinskapelle is popularly known Merbodkapelle. It is connected with the person of a Merbod who allegedly suffered as a pastor of Alberschwende 1120 martyred. It could be detected at this point remains of a Romanesque church from the mid-12th century. The present chapel was built in 1742 in baroque style.

Sports

Alberschwende is also known by the Hockey Team EHC Bregenzerwald. This plays in the Inter- National - League, the second highest Austrian Hockey League and was there in the 2012/13 season sensational masterpiece.

In addition Alberschwende has its own football club with many members. Since 2013, the FC Alberschwende plays in the Vorarlberg League, the top division in Vorarlberg.
