Albert Boutwell

Albert Burton Boutwell ( born November 13, 1904 in Montgomery, Alabama; † 3 February 1978) was an American politician (Democratic Party).

Boutwell was born in 1904 in Montgomery, the son of Clarence Columbus and Lydia Boutwell. He attended Greenville High School and studied at the University of Alabama. There he received his Bachelor of Laws in 1928. After completing his studies he began in 1928 to practice in Birmingham.

1946 Boutwell was elected to the Senate from Alabama. 1950 and 1954 was his re-election. Elected Vice- Governor of Alabama in 1958, he held this office 1959-1963. Boutwell next political office was the mayor of Birmingham. Here he was able to prevail in 1963 against Eugene " Bull" Connor. During his tenure, the attack falls on the 16th Street Baptist Church.

Family

Boutwell married on November 23, 1934 Helen Balfour in Birmingham. The couple had three children, a daughter and two sons. Boutwell was Methodist and was a member of the Freemasons.
