Albert Burger (alpine skier)

Albert Burger ( born May 8, 1955 in Kranzegg ) is a former German ski racer and current coach. He was in the second half of the 1970s and early 1980s, to the best giant slalom racers of his country. Burger 1976 German champion in giant slalom, took two Olympic Games and two more times at some world championships. In Skiweltcup he went six times in the top ten.

Career

The first points in the World Cup took Burger on March 2, 1975, tenth in the giant slalom at Mount Garibaldi. At the beginning of the 1975/76 season he came in Madonna di Campiglio to eighth place. In his first major event, the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976 he reached the giant slalom as the best German tenth place and in the slalom, he finished in 15th place on 5 March 1976 as he fifth in the giant slalom at Copper Mountain, he managed his best World Cup result ever, reaching number. With another top ten result in Mont Sainte -Anne, he came to the twelfth place in the giant slalom World Cup. In the winter of 1976, he also became German champion in this discipline.

Over the next two seasons Burger came in the World Cup ever in the top ten. In the 1978 World Cup in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he finished, again as the best German, the 19th place in the giant slalom. After almost three years without points burgers came on January 7, 1979, ninth in the giant slalom at Courchevel again in the World Cup points ranking. In the season 1979/80, his best result was sixth place in the giant slalom in Adelboden. At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, he came in the giant slalom at rank 20 in the slalom he left, however, from the second passage.

At the end of the 1980/81 season brought Burger with 12th place in the giant slalom in Laax last World Cup points. The following winter he was no longer among the top 15 In his last major event, the 1982 World Cup in Schladming, he fell in the first run of the giant slalom from. After the 1981/82 season Burger ended his active career. Today he is part of the coaching staff of the German Ski Association.
