Albert Chamberland

Albert Chamberland ( born October 12, 1886 in Quebec City, † April 4, 1975 ibid ) was a Canadian violinist, conductor, music teacher and composer.

Life

Chamberland was a violin pupil of Jean Duquette and later at the McGill Conservatory of Alfred De Sève and debuted in 1904 as a violin soloist. He belonged to the, founded by Joseph -Jean Goulet Orchestre symphonique de Montréal ( OSM) and was from 1907 to 1910 Member of the Beethoven trios and then until 1920 the Dubois String Quartet.

In the same year he was one of the founders of the Orchestre de Montréal philharmonique, next he directed until 1925 Chamberland String Quartet ( with Norman Herschorn, Eugène Chartier and Raoul Duquette ). In 1932 he became a member of the Montreal Orchestra. As in 1934, the fourth OSM was formed, he became its first violinist, and in 1939 Deputy orchestra conductor.

From 1937 to 1952 Chamberland was a music producer for the CBC. He also worked as a teacher at the Conservatoire, among other national and at the Couvent Villa -Maria. Among his pupils were Alexander Brott, René Gagnier, Norman Herschorn, Lucien Martin and Claude Champagne.
