Albert Einstein Science Park

The Albert Einstein Science Park is located on the Telegrafenberg in Potsdam. It is named after the physicist Albert Einstein. The most famous building in the Science Park is the Einstein Tower, which was built for experimental verification of his theory of relativity.

By the mid- 19th century, the science park was created on Telegraph Hill, designed by architect Paul Emanuel Spieker. Various astronomical, meteorological and geoscience observatories were built, integrated into an English landscape garden. Among the most famous buildings include the Einstein Tower and the Great Refractor, which have become the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam.

Since 1992, following newly established institutions are on the site:

  • GFZ German Research
  • Astrophysical Institute Potsdam
  • Potsdam Research Unit of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research
  • Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
  • Meteorological Observatory Potsdam of the German Weather Service

In the 1990s, the historic buildings have been extensively renovated and built numerous new buildings.

The Einstein Tower and the building of the Great Refractor host exhibitions.
