Albert Frederick, Duke of Prussia

Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia ( * April 29, 1553 in Königsberg, † August 27 1618 in Fischhausen ) was since 1568 the reigning prince of the Duchy of Prussia.

Ethnicity and Youth

Albrecht Friedrich was born the son of Albert of Brandenburg -Ansbach and his second wife Anna Maria of Brunswick on 29 April 1553 the castle Neuhausen in Sambia. He was the second Duke of Prussia.

Work

He enjoyed a good education and was already in 1568 with 15 years of reigning prince under guardianship of the top councils of the ruling since 1566 selfish and fanatical orthodox sized party. In league with the clergy, preceded Heshusius Bishop of Sambia, they bullied the young, orphaned, each support deprived princes so much that he fell soon after his accession to the throne in 1571 were made in depression.

On October 14, 1573 Albert married Marie Eleonore von Jülich- Kleve -Berg, daughter of William the rich and Maria von Habsburg.

In 1577 Margrave George Frederick of Brandenburg- Kulmbach and Brandenburg -Ansbach by the Polish King Stephen Báthory, the then lord over Prussia, was appointed administrator of the duchy and in 1578 invested with the Duchy.

He was succeeded in 1603 Elector Joachim Friedrich, 1608, then John Sigismund, Albrecht's son from his marriage to his eldest daughter, Anna.

Mental illness and death

Albrecht Friedrich died in utter mental confusion August 27, 1618 Fischhausen without leaving a male heir. Thus his duchy fell to the Brandenburg line of Hohenzollern.

Marriage and issue

On October 14, 1573 Albrecht married Marie Eleonore von Jülich- Kleve -Berg; the couple had seven children:
