Albert Gallatin Egbert

Albert Gallatin Egbert (* April 13, 1828 in Sandy Lake, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, † March 28, 1896 in Franklin, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Albert Egbert attended the public schools of his home and then the Austinburg Academy in Ohio. After a subsequent medical school at Western Reserve University in Cleveland and his 1856 was admitted as a doctor, he started in Clintonville to work in this profession. Later he transferred his residence and his practice in the place Cherrytree. In 1861 he gave up his job to work in the oil industry and agriculture. During the Civil War he was yet again worked as a volunteer doctor. After the war he continued in this capacity.

Politically Egbert was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1874 he was in the 27th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lemuel Todd on March 4, 1875. Since he resigned in 1876 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1877. During this time he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Albert Egbert operated again in the oil industry and in agriculture. He died on 28 March 1896 in Franklin, where he was also buried.
