Albert Grenier (historian)

Albert Grenier ( born April 22, 1878 in Paris, † June 23, 1961 ) was a French historian, religious scholar and provincial Roman archaeologist. He was dedicated to the history of ancient Rome and the Celts, especially the Gauls.

Together with Joseph Déchelette he edited the multi-volume Handbook of the prehistoric archeology of the Celts and Gallo-Romans (Manuel d' archeology Prehistorique, Celtique et Gallo -Romaine ).

For the history of religion Mana series he wrote the article about the religions of the Etruscans and Romans.

In 1936 he became a professor at the Collège de France, 1942, he was elected a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. In 1943 he founded the magazine Gallia and he was director of the École française de Rome by 1947 until 1952.
