Albert Henry (politician)

Albert Royle Henry ( born June 11, 1907 in Aitutaki, Cook Islands, † January 2, 1981 in Rarotonga, Cook Islands) was a politician of the Cook Islands.

Biography

After 1965, self-government was granted in free association with New Zealand on 4 August, Henry was as chairman of the Cook Islands Party first Premier of the Cook Islands. In the four subsequent elections Henry was confirmed as prime minister. In 1978 he was, however, deposed and then accused of election fraud and corruption. In 1979 he declared himself guilty and was then placed on a policy ban of three years. After an appeal this ban was annulled.

On April 11, 1980 him in 1974, awarded by Queen Elizabeth II Knighthood ( Knighthood ) has been revoked.

Henry was a cousin of Geoffrey Henry, who was the 1983 and 1989-1999 Premier of the Cook Islands.
