Albert I, Duke of Mecklenburg-Stargard

Albrecht I, Duke of Mecklenburg [- Stargard ] ( * before 1377, † 11 February to 15 July 1397 in Dorpat ) was Duke of Mecklenburg - Stargard, 1393 canon to Schwerin and from 1396 to 1397 Coadjutor Bishop to Dorpat.

Family

He was the child of the third marriage of the Duke Johann I and his wife Agnes.

Biography

Albrecht I was probably born before 1382 and ruled jointly with his brother Johann II and I. Ulrich.

In 1393 he was called as canon in Schwerin Matrikelverzeichnis the University of Heidelberg.

In 1395 he went to Livonia to be Dietrich Damerau coadjutor to the Bishop of Dorpat. There he arbitrated a dispute between the bishop and the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order Konrad von Jungingen. Beginning of the year 1396 wrote the Grand Master, the Bishop of Dorpat had invited one of the gentlemen of Meklenburg to be, granted him several castles and would this once get his bishopric in his hands. Between 11 February and 15 July Albrecht died at Dorpat and was buried there.
