Albert IV, Duke of Saxe-Eisenach

Duke Albert of Saxe- Eisenach ( * July 27, 1599 in Altenburg, † December 20, 1644 in Eisenach )

Life

Duke Albrecht is the son of Duke John III. of Saxe- Weimar and his wife Dorothea Maria of Anhalt. The Dukes Johann Ernst of Saxe- Weimar, the Younger, Friedrich von Sachsen- Weimar, Wilhelm IV of Saxe- Weimar, Johann Friedrich of Saxe- Weimar, Ernst I of Saxe- Gotha and Bernhard of Saxe- Weimar are his brothers.

His first lessons receives Duke Albrecht by the Hofmeister Friedrich von Kospoth. Later he studied like his brothers at the University of Jena.

Shortly before his departure in 1619 Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt- Köthen takes him into the Fruitbearing society. He gives this company the name of the Unsightly and the motto brings the finest juice. As an emblem of Duke Albrecht is intended for a circumcised vine. In Köthener society book to be found under the entry No. 17

In the years 1619-1621 he completed accompanied by his brother Duke Johann Friedrich its Cavalierstour. This leads the two through France and Switzerland. Included are also the tutor Hans Bernd von Botzheim and Councillor Tobias Adami.

After his return in 1621, Duke Albrecht 's to 1626 mainly deals with government tasks. He also represents his absent brothers. 1627, he was appointed Administrator for the Thuringian Ordensballei.

On June 24, 1633, he married Dorothea of Saxe- Altenburg ( 1601-1675 ), daughter of Frederick William I

According to the agreement with his brothers receives Duke Albrecht 1640 eisenachischen the part of the state.

Three years later, on December 20th, 1644 dying Duke Albert of Saxe- Eisenach without issue.
