Albert Kapengut

Albert Zinovievich Kapengut (Russian Альберт Зиновьевич Капенгут, Belarusian Альбэрт Капэнгут / Albert Kapenhut; born July 4, 1944 in Kazan ) is a Belarusian chess player and coach.

Life

Seven times he was able to win the championship of the Byelorussian SSR. 1962, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1976, 1977 and 1978 In 2003, he won the championship of New Jersey.

From 1964 to 1968 with the exception of 1967, he belonged to the Soviet national team at the annual World Student Championships, such as Eduard Buchman, Roman Dzindzichashvili, Boris Gulko, Viktar Kuprejtschyk, Henadij Kuzmin, Volodymyr Volodymyr Sawon and Tukmakow. The team reached the gold medal each, with Kapengut additionally 1966 in Örebro the best result of all the players on the fourth board had ( 7.5 points from 8 games) and 1968 in Ybbs an der Donau the best result of all the players on the first reserve board (with 6 from 8).

As a chess coach, he trained as Juri Schulman, Ilia Smirin, Boris Gelfand and Mikhail Tal, whose Sekundant he was in 1979 and 1980. He also belonged to the theory of Staff Anatoly Karpov. Meanwhile he teaches chess, among others in the Kings & Queens Chess Club. He himself was trained by Isaac Boleslawski and Alexei Sokolski.

He carries since 1991 the title of International Master. His best world ranking according to historical Elo rating was the 54th place in January 1972. The best FIDE Elo rating Kapenguts was 2490 for the year 1973. Since April 2008, he plays for the U.S. Chess Federation.
