Albert of Aix

Albert of Aachen (Latin Albericus Aquensis, French Albert d' Aix ) was a cleric from around the homonymous favorite palace of Charles the Great. Around the year 1101 he wrote the only chronicle about the folk crusade of the poor detailed report said precursor of the First Crusade. The Chronicle is still in a compilation available.

Albert used another chronicle, the so-called Gesta Francorum, and verbal reports from participants and now lost written eyewitness accounts. This included a chronicle, which should have written a companion of the Duke and the Crusader Godfrey of Bouillon.

The Duke was again follower of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV Albert lifted his role very prominent, although the emperor actually behaved defensively because of his dispute with the church during the crusade propaganda.
