Albert Rohan

Albert Rohan ( born May 9, 1936 in Melk, Lower Austria ) is an Austrian diplomat, columnist and consultant for business enterprises.

Life

Albert Rohan comes in the wake of the French Revolution fled partly to Austria French aristocratic Rohan family.

After his studies and doctorate in law at the University of Vienna and a Master's degree at the College of Europe, he began his career in 1963 in the service of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His diplomatic career has taken him to Belgrade, London and during the term of Kurt Waldheim as UN Secretary-General to New York, where he was in 1977 appointed Head of the Cabinet of the Secretary General.

After several top positions in the Austrian diplomatic service ( among others, Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay) Rohan in 1996 Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry. In 2004, he was the rapporteur of the International Commission on Turkey EU. Together with Martti Ahtisaari 2005 he was appointed by the UN as special envoy to mediate in the conflict over the future status of under UN administration Serbian province of Kosovo.

Ambassador Albert Rohan is President of the Austro -American Society, and Vice- President of the Austrian Society for European Policy.
