Albert Sing

Albert Sing ( born April 7, 1917 in Eislingen / Fils, † 31 August, 2008 Origlio ) was a German football player and coach.

Career as a player

Sing began his career at the 1 FC Eislingen. In 1935, he joined the Stuttgarter Kickers, with which he won in 1936 and 1942 and by 1939 the championship of the Gauliga Württemberg and qualified for the finals of the German soccer championship.

Between 1940 and 1942 he played nine times for the German national football team. His international debut was on October 20, 1940 at 7:3 victory in a friendly against Bulgaria. This was followed by eight more matches in 1942. His only international goal he scored in the 5-3 away win over Hungary on May 3, 1942. It was also the 500th goal in the German National team history.

Career as a coach

His coaching career began singing in 1948 in Schwäbisch Gmünd. He then became a coach ( first player-manager ) in Switzerland. With the BSC Young Boys Sing took from 1957 to 1960 a total of four championships in series and two cup wins. This success was achieved in Switzerland any other coach. Under Sing YB also reached the semi-finals in the European Champions Cup (now Champions League). Further stations of Sing were Grasshoppers Zurich, FC St. Gallen FC Lugano and FC Luzern.

Under Sepp Herberger was singing co- coach of the German national team at the World Cup in 1954 in Switzerland. He chose the team headquarters from Lake Thun for the later world champion team.

Later he was still in the Bundesliga coach of VfB Stuttgart and Munich from 1860.

After Sing had to give up work as a coach because of a war injury, he returned to Switzerland, where he worked as a club advisor. From 1970 until his death lived Albert Sing in Origlio near Lugano in Ticino.

When he was threatened with expulsion for VfB Stuttgart and a reporter asked worried about his future, he replied: ". Na go i just uff d' Fildre Krombiere Gruble " (freely translated from Swabia: " Then I'll stop on the Fildern, potato dig out of the ground. " )
