Albert (Texas)

Albert, originally Martinsburg, is a village in the U.S. state of Texas.

History

The foundation stone for the village was laid in 1877 by Fritz Wilke, George Maenius and John Peter. They were in search of pastures for their cattle, and therefore acquired the land. 1877 a post office was opened which was in operation until 1886 in what was then called Martinsburg place. 1892 drew Carl Albert Luckenbach Luckenbach from twenty miles away, to Martinsburg. When he opened a new post office here she was registered as Albert which the place got its new name. 1891, the first school was opened in Albert, six years later, the first business Alberts opened its doors. In 1900 a new school building was constructed in which the later U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson was taught for a year. 1922 dance hall was inaugurated in Albert. In 1985 the shop was closed, the town hall was used as a warehouse and the school was used as a community center. In March 2003, Robert L. Cave acquired the village. 2007 tried to auction the 13 acre property with an area of owner Bobby Cave. As a minimum return he demanded 2.5 million dollars ( 1.73 million euros ). On 23 November 2007 the village for $ 3,000,800 was sold to an Italian.

Population Development

1925 lived 50 people in Albert, in 1964 there were four in 1972 and 25 in 1985 as well as 1990 and 2000, respectively 25 inhabitants were recorded for the settlement. In 2007, there were no permanent inhabitants more.
