Albert Thierfelder

( Ferdinand ) Albert Thierfelder ( born December 26, 1842 in Meissen, † January 22, 1908 in Rostock ) was a German pathologist and university professor.

Life and work

Thierfelder was the son of Johann Gottlieb Meissner Stadtphysikus Thierfelder (1799-1867) born; his older brother was the Secret Obermedizinalrat Theodor Thierfelder ( 1824-1904 ). After studying medicine at the University of Leipzig in 1870 he received his doctorate of medicine. As early as 1869, he worked as an assistant at the clinic and then from 1870 as an assistant at the Pathological Institute in Leipzig. In 1876 he was appointed as professor in Leipzig and appointed in the same year as professor of pathological anatomy at the Pathological Institute in Rostock, whose direction he took over later. 1883/84 Thierfelder was rector of the University of Rostock. The Secret 1905 entitled Medical Officer Sir Thierfelder held the position as director until his death in 1908.

Thierfelder was married twice. About children is not known. One of his most famous colleagues and employees in Rostock was the pathologist Otto Lubarsch ( 1860-1933 ).

Publications

Thierfelder journalistic masterpiece was the Atlas of Pathological Histology, he has published 1872-1881 in seven sub- volumes.

Trivia

Occasionally ( Ferdinand ) Albert Thierfelder also with its namesake, the musician Albert Thierfelder ( 1846-1924 ), also a university professor in Rostock and University Music Director, confused. Both worked temporarily at the same time at the University of Rostock; both of their term of office is also in line here and there with the older brother of Ferdinand Albert Theodor Thierfelder.
