Albert Town (formerly Newcastle) is a place just to the northeast of Wanaka in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. Until recently, a rural community of the city experienced a population growth.
The place is located at the mouth of the Cardrona River in the Clutha. The north of Wanaka extending State Highway 6 crosses the Clutha here. The nearest place in this direction is Maungawera, about 5 km north-east. The place was named after Albert of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha.
