Albert Veiel

Life

Veiel was the son of the town priest and dean of Vaihingen an der Enz Georg Friedrich (from) Veiel.

Veiel studied medicine at the University of Tübingen and the University of Paris and received his doctorate in 1829 with the paper "On lack of education of the extremities. A trial in pathological anatomy. "

In 1837, Veiel in Cannstatt the " sanatorium for sick lichen ", considered the first skin clinic in Germany.

In the following years he acquired through his excellent healing results for himself and his institution an excellent reputation. Among the many spa guests his sanatorium also members of the European nobility and numerous celebrities from politics and culture.

Veiel counted alongside Jakob Heine ( Clinic for orthopedics) and Heinrich Ebner ( Clinic for orthopedics) to the doctors, the Cannstatt made ​​famous as a health resort.

In 1856 he was elected an honorary citizen of the official city Cannstatt ( now part of the city of Stuttgart ) appointed. In his honor, we named a street Veielbrunnenweg, where he built a fountain - the fountain Veiel -, fed from a state-approved spa, a sodium - calcium - chloride - sulfate - bicarbonate - sorrel. Since 1857 Veiel bore the personal title of nobility as a carrier of the Order of the Württemberg Crown.

Veiel died on August 2, 1874 in Cannstatt and was buried in the medieval burial ground for the parish of Uffkirche.
