Albert Welti

Albert Welti ( born February 18, 1862 in Zurich, † June 7, 1912 in Bern ) was a Swiss painter and etcher.

Life

Albert Welti studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was influenced by Arnold Böcklin. A recurrent theme of his works are representations of dream and nightmare scenes. Welti worked until 1908 in Munich, where he met Hermann Hesse in 1907. His most famous work is the mural The rural community that adorns the south wall of the Senate Hall in the Federal Palace in Bern and was completed two years after his death by William Balmer.

Albert Welti was a son of the transporter Jacob Albert Welti- Furrer, father of the writer and painter Albert Welti Jacob, Uncle Arthur Welti, great-uncle of Philippe Welti and great-great uncle of Sophie Hunger.
