Albert Zimmermann

August Albert Zimmermann ( born September 20, 1808 in Zittau, † October 18, 1888 in Munich) was a German painter.

Life

He was the eldest brother of Max, Robert and Richard Zimmermann, some of which were also his students.

Zimmermann turned 21 years as a self-taught landscape painting and went for training at the Academy in Dresden in 1831 to Munich. There he founded a much-visited art school of landscape painting. In 1857 he received a professorship at the Milan Academy of Fine Arts, where he was followed by his favorite pupil Adalbert scales. 1859 or 1860, Zimmermann went to Vienna, where he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts until 1872. Then he took up residence in Salzburg in 1880 and settled in 1884 or 1885 to Munich, where he died in 1888.

Reception

Zimmermann was an outstanding representative of the heroic- historical landscape painting. He chose the motives to his great -conceived stylized landscapes with preference from the mountain scenery (often with biblical Masked ) but has in addition also painted portraits nature in poetic lighting. His models for the former were Joseph Anton Koch and Bonaventura Genelli.
