Highway 1 in the Canadian province of Alberta is part of the Trans-Canada Highway system. It leads to a length of 534 km across in West-/Ost-Richtung through the entire county. It starts at the Kicking Horse Pass in Banff National Park and ends west of Medicine Hat on the border with the province of Saskatchewan.

Route description

Banff - Calgary

The highway begins as a continuation of Highway 1, the western neighboring province of British Columbia on the Kicking Horse Pass. This pass is at a height of 1234 m not only the highest point of this highway, but generally the entire Trans-Canada Highway. By crossing the pass you get into the Banff National Park. The highway runs in a southwesterly direction. After 7 km, branches off to the north from Highway 93. This is known as the Icefields Parkway, it leads into Jasper National Park.
