Alberto Bevilacqua

Alberto Bevilacqua (* June 27, 1934 in Parma, † September 9, 2013 in Rome ) was an Italian writer, screenwriter and film director.

Life

Bevilacqua wrote his first novel, La polvere sull'erba, in 1955 and submitted it for publication at Salvatore Sciascia; because of Italian censorship, the book could not then appear, and it was released only in 2000 at Einaudi. In the following years he wrote more than 40 novels and short stories, with strong influences that make him among the most important writers of Italy in the 20th century.

Since 1961, he has also written screenplays for feature films and resulted in the self- adaptation of the novel La Califfa 1970 debut as a director, which he did in a further seven films.

Bevilacqua has received numerous awards; as his literary work was honored with the Premio Campiello, inter alia, Bancarella Premio, Premio Strega and the Premio Dessi. For his screenplay for Questa specia d' amore he was awarded the Nastro d' Argento 1974.

On 22 November 2010 he was awarded at the initiative of the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano with the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic Grand Cross on the stage.

Alberto Bevilacqua died on 9 September after an infectious disease at the age of 79 years.
