Alberto Bovone

Alberto Cardinal Bovone ( born June 11, 1922 in Frugarolo, Province of Alessandria, Italy, † April 17, 1998 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Alberto Bovone received his theological and philosophical education in Alessandria, Turin and Rome. He became a Doctor of Canon Law and received on May 26, 1945, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After two years as a parish pastor in his home diocese followed by further studies, on completion of which he entered the service of the Vatican. He worked for many years for the Council and Congregation Congregation of the Curia. On January 23, 1967, he gave Pope Paul VI. the title Prelate of His Holiness house.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 5, 1984 Titular Archbishop of Caesarea in Numidia and the secretary of the CDF. The bishop ordained Alberto Bovone on May 12 of the same by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI. ; Co-consecrators were the then Pro- Major Penitentiary, Curia, Archbishop Luigi Dadaglio, and the Bishop of Alessandria, Ferdinando Maggioni. 1995 Alberto Bovone Pro- Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. On February 21, 1998, Pope John Paul II was a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Ognissanti in Via Appia Nuova in the College of Cardinals, and appointed him two days later prefect of the Congregation of Saints.

Alberto Bovone died on 17 April 1998 in Rome and was buried in the cemetery of his birthplace Frugarolo.
