Alberto Granado

Alberto Granado ( born August 8, 1922 in Hernando, Córdoba Province, Argentina, † March 5, 2011 in Havana, Cuba) was Che Guevara's traveling companion on his journey through South America from 1951 to 1952.

Career

Granado studied biochemistry at the University of Córdoba. In Córdoba, he met Che Guevara in 1945, with whom developed a close friendship. According to the common South American trip it took eight years to again saw both. Granado was invited by Che Guevara to work in Cuba. At first he was a professor of biochemistry at the University of Havana, and later taught at the Universidad de Oriente in Santiago de Cuba.

His book served as the basis for the film The Motorcycle Diaries With Che by South America ( Con el Che por Sudamérica ) and was translated into several languages.

Granado, who lived in Cuba since 1961, has one son. Following his last wishes, he was cremated on March 6, 2011 in Havana. His ashes will be scattered in Cuba, Venezuela and Argentina.
