Alberto Herreros

Alberto Herreros Ros ( born April 20, 1969 in Madrid ) is a former Spanish professional basketball player.

Career

The 1.99 meter tall small forward began his career at Canoe NC before moving to CB Estudiantes in 1988. Here he quickly made a name for himself as one of the most talented Spanish basketball player of his time, and especially his distance casts were feared. His first title win was winning the cup in 1991/92, the same year he reached with his club the semifinals of the European Champions' Cup. In 1996, Herreros after tough negotiations to city rivals Real Madrid with whom he was in his first season conquer the European Cup Winners' Cup and finished the league in the second place. 1999/ 00 and 2004/ 05 he finally succeeded in winning the ACB league with Real Madrid. In our memory is especially his three-point hit seven seconds before the end of the decisive fifth game of the Spanish Championship in 2005, away against TAU Vitoria. With this he gave his team the title and came back at the same time from active competition. Currently Herreros operates as a functionary in the basketball section of Real Madrid.

National

Herreros celebrated on 1 June 1990 his debut for the Spanish national team with which he played a total of 172 games. His greatest successes were the Vice European Championships in 1999 and 2003, he also was twice top scorer in an international tournament ( FIBA World Championship 1998 EuroBasket 1999) and three times part of the All-Star Team (EM 1995 1998 World Cup and Euro 1999 ).
