Alberto Zedda

Alberto Zedda ( born January 2, 1928 in Milan ) is an Italian conductor and musicologist.

Life

Alberto Zedda studied music at his birthplace and music history at the University of Urbino. From 1961 to 1963 he was in charge at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, from 1967 to 1969 at the New York City Opera for the Italian repertoire. Since the development of the Rossini Opera Festival 1980 to 1992 he was its artistic director. In the season 1992/1993 he was artistic director at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

He has the reputation of being a leading Rossini expert and teaches music history at the University of Urbino. Together with Rodolfo Celletti he was musical director of the Festival della Valle d' Itria in Martina Franca. He is a member of the artistic advisory board of the Fondazione Rossini in Pesaro and honorary president of the German Rossini Society.
