Albillo

Albillo is a white grape variety that is grown in central Spain on about 2800 hectares, mainly in the provinces of Extremadura, Galicia, Castilla y Leon and Vinos de Madrid. The variety matures relatively early and has a high glycerol content. She is sold to a small part of the wine of the winery Unico Vega Sicilia and is also used as a table grape, but is only partially transportable.

The vine is vigorous and profitable but provides low-acid and high alcohol wines. Albillo is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic disadvantage is avoided, no return delivered to have male plants grow.

Origin

For extensive DNA testing, it was found that Albillo originated from a cross between Prié Blanc and an as yet unidentified variety .. Prié Blanc was cultivated for a long time in the Spanish province of Ávila under the name Legiruela.
