Albon-d'Ardèche

Albon d'Ardèche is a commune of 157 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the region Rhône -Alpes. It is located in the department of Ardèche. Its inhabitants are (it) called Albonnais.

Geography

The community Albon extends between the massif Boutières, a part of the Cévennes and the valley of Eyrieux. It is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. Neighboring municipalities Ville Saint -Pierre and Marcols -les-Eaux. The nearest major town is in Aubenas 23 kilometers to the southwest. The municipality is crossed by the rivers Glueyre and Veyruègne. The chestnut forests represent a central element of the landscape in and around Albon d'Ardèche.

History

In the 11th century a documentary mention, when the Lords of Roche are made ​​via the Abbey of La Chaise- Dieu, the church Saint -Julien, as well as several areas and vineyards in the valley and especially in Albon. The story of Albon is closely linked with that of Protestantism in France. At the executions that were carried out there after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, is remembered even today everywhere. The Church of Serre Palle was built at that time the hamlet Serrepuy.

After a split from the neighboring municipality Marcols -Les -Eaux Albon is independent municipality on March 20, 1912 by law.

Attractions

Around the " Champ de Mars" ( 1343 m), there are several hiking trails that connect to the Col de Mézillac and the Col de Faye offer in the direction of the extinct volcano La Graveyre.
