Albrecht Mayer

Albrecht Mayer ( born June 3, 1965 in Erlangen ) is a German oboist.

Life

After studying with Gerhard Scheuer, Maurice Bourgue, Georg Meerwein and Ingo Goritzki and its membership at the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra Albrecht Mayer 1990 solo oboist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Since 1992 he has held the same position with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

As a soloist he has released several CDs. It also made recordings with the Berlin Baroque Soloists, the Sabine Meyer Wind Ensemble and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. In search of his ideal sound he founded the Ensemble New Seasons. In addition to solo projects he has devoted himself to chamber music, while his partners are, inter alia, Nigel Kennedy and Hélène Grimaud. Accompanied by the Berlin Baroque Soloists Albrecht Mayer was in November 2007, his debut at New York's Carnegie Hall. In 2008 he was Artiste Etoile at the Lucerne Festival. Albrecht Mayer played along with pieces with his oboe, which have been written for other instruments. Examples are his CD Songs without Words with Bach transcriptions as well as his album with New Seasons Handel transcriptions that even made ​​it into the German pop charts. His CD On the traces of Mozart with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Claudio Abbado kept for months in the German classical charts and was also first on the list of the German Record Critics.

Mayer used to play on a Green Line Oboe by the French company Buffet Crampon, since 2009 on a developed by him with the instrument maker Ludwig Frank oboe and oboe d' amore manufactured by the company Gebrüder Mönnig.
