Albrecht Pfister (mathematician)

Albrecht Pfister ( born July 30, 1934 in Munich) is a German mathematician who deals with algebra and in particular quadratic forms.

Pfister was founded in 1961 with Martin Kneser and Karl Stein received his PhD at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University Munich ( via the coefficient problem of bounded functions of two variables ). In 1966 he qualified as a professor at the Georg- August-Universität Göttingen. From 1970, he was until his retirement Professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

In the theory of quadratic forms over fields in 1965 he introduced Pfister forms are named after him.

In 1970 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Nice ( Sums of squares in real function fields ).
