Alburnus danubicus

Alburnus danubicus is an extinct species of fish in the carp family. It was originally considered a subspecies of Mairenke ( Alburnus chalcoides ) and was endemic in Romania.

Features

Alburnus danubicus reached a head -body length of about 20 centimeters. There were 68 to 70 scales on the lateral line organ. The number of branched Analflossenstrahlen was 17 to 20 ½. The starting point of Analflossenstrahlen was 1 ½ to 2 ½ shed behind the base of the last Dorsalflossenstrahls.

Dissemination

Alburnus danubicus came in Razim Lake ( Lacul Razim ), in what is now almost disappeared Zaton Lake ( Lacul Zaton ) and in Sinoe Lake ( Lacul Sinoe ) in the Danube Delta and in the Danube at Cernavoda in Romania.

Status

Alburnus danubicus has been known only from the holotype from the year 1909 and a further finding from the 1943. Probably lived the way to 1940 in the lower reaches of the Danube. There are no museum specimens.
