Alburquerque (Bohol)

Alburquerque is a Philippine municipality in the southwest of the province of Bohol with 9921 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ).

The place was initially the name Segunto and belonged to the municipality of Baclayon. On June 9, 1868 then was by a decree of Governor General Jose de la Gandara founded an independent municipality and the name changed in Alburquerque. The town was named after an eponymous city in present-day New Mexico, which in turn is named after the then Viceroy of New Spain Fernández de la Cueva, eighth Duke of Alburquerque, received. The Boholanos call the city only briefly Albur.
