Alchenstorf ( in local dialect: [ ɑu̯ ( χ ) ɪʃ ˌ to ɾf ː ] ) is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Alchenstorf is located at 500 m above sea level. M., 8 km north of the district capital Burgdorf (air line). The farming village stretches along the eastern edge of the flood plain of the river Emme, in the valley of Wynigenbachs between the heights of large wood and wild mountain in the Swiss Mittelland.

The area of ​​6.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the over-molded by glacial Rhone glacier Molassehöhen east of Emmeebene in the Bernese Mittelland. The area is crossed by the valley of the Wynigenbachs with an approximately 200 to 400 m wide, flat valley floor from the southeast to the northwest. Population

With 567 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Alchenstorf one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents 98.6 % are German, 0.4 % French-speaking and 0.4 % speak Serbo-Croatian (as of 2000). The population of Alchenstorf amounted in 1850 to 648 inhabitants, in 1900 there were 615 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population had a slightly decreasing trend. Since 1970 (552 inhabitants), only small population fluctuations were recorded.

Economy

Alchenstorf was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and animal husbandry and dairying have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region of Burgdorf and in the Solothurn area.

Traffic

History
